When considering how much exercise is needed for beneficial weight loss, it is also worth considering the starting weight; the more pounds a person has, the more calories they will burn, just by standing still. While there may be workout routines that are called extreme exercise, it usually refers to simply exercising to excess. Instead of jogging for an hour maybe someone will do it for 2 to 3 hours. Or they work themselves to the point of exhaustion. While a few people might benefit from this extreme type of weight loss exercise, most people won't. You need to reach a minimum number of calories per day. For most people a 1200 calorie diet is close to starvation. But if you're not getting any type of exercise at all, you may not be able to eat even that much in this way. Getting regular exercise allows you to take in more calories while still losing weight.
